I am currently contracted with Regence Blue Shield, Blue Cross of Idaho, Select Health, Tricare, and Aetna to accept insurance benefits. It is very important that you find out exactly what mental health services your insurance policy covers. You should carefully read the section in your insurance coverage booklet that describes mental health services. Insurance companies can set limits and constraints around what treatment options are available to you in several ways. While I may bill through your insurance or provide a superbill, your file may or may not have a reimbursable diagnosis and may or may not be deemed “medically necessary”. Some services may also require authorizations or have limitations on the amount of sessions you are entitled to use with your insurance. If you have questions about the coverage, call your plan administrator.
Additionally, Paying out of pocket offers several benefits for the therapy process. Self-pay options allow us more freedom to determine how often we meet, how long we meet, and what treatment approach will work best for you. Self-pay options are often necessary for couples counseling, therapy without indicating a mental health diagnosis, or other non-covered treatment methods. When a metal health diagnosis is indicated, self-pay options provide more time and freedom to explore your symptoms, dictate how we will achieve treatment goals, and reassess those goals as often as needed.
