While a majority of my clients are part of the LGBT community, I provide an affirming environment for people of all walks of life. I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues such as depression, anxiety, grief counseling, parent support, trauma and abuse, life transitions, and beyond. I offer an individualized therapy experience in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Everyone is unique and their therapy experience should be reflective of that individuality.
Individual therapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client to facilitate change and improve the quality of life for the individual. This process is traditionally known as "talk therapy". I work with each client to establish unique goals catered to their specific needs. I encourage frequent feedback in order to ensure the process is collaborative and helpful. I use an eclectic mix of approaches influenced by family systems theories. My work pulls heavily from narrative therapy, experiential therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Adolescent therapy addresses concerns regarding functioning at home, school, or with family. I work with children as young as age 12. I incorporate games, drawing, writing, journaling, and other creative interventions to best suit the needs of my clients. I strive to work with clients to achieve their treatment goals, while also fostering improved communication and connection among family members. Often, I encourage family therapy sessions both with and without the client as part of treatment with adolescents in order to improve the quality of life within the whole of the family system.
Couples and Relational Therapy
Conflicts often arise in relationships with loved ones which can heavily impact our daily lives. Couple and relational therapy provides assistance for those struggling with conflict in their partnership(s), between family members, as co-parents, or with other important figures in their life. My work with couples and other relationships is influenced by exploring ways to rebuild and reconnect attachment relationships as well as learning tools for improved communication techniques. I also provide affirming, therapeutic support for nonmonogomous relationships.
Family therapy is crucial for resolving conflicts within the family system. This process typically includes as many family members as needed to address the major conflicts addressed in the therapy process. Working with the family is also a crucial part of work with adolescents, as the family plays an important role in their lives and their functioning.
For parents of LGBTQ youth - I also provide parent education and consultation. If your child (whether a youth or adult) has disclosed to you their gender or sexuality, it can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult to find information and support. I am available to meet with parents to provide resources, information about gender and sexuality development, ways to support your child, etc. While this can, at times, lead into therapy services, parent support and consultation primarily focuses on these more concrete, action and education-oriented steps. Telehealth is also available for this service.
Group therapy can be a powerful and valuable experience. Not only does group therapy bring a sense of validation and understanding amongst peers, but can also lead to enhancement of social skills, awareness of how one's behaviors impact relationships, and improved coping skills. Group therapy is comprised of both education/skill building and processing time. This processing time offers the ability to experience support, give support, and examine your own beliefs about yourself and the world around you. Current groups available:
